The body of the natsume is decorated with stylized clouds, executed in gold lacquer contour lines. Black interior. Signed on bottom: Shōichirō.
With cloth and box signed by artist ‘Shōichirō, with artist’s seal Shōichirō.
Inscription on the box reads: mother of pearl, natsume, pine tree eating cranes, maki-e (raden natsume matsu kue tsuru maki-e).

*Tasaki Shōichirō is a maki-e artist from Wajima, Ishikawa Prefecture. When he was just fifteen years old he started studying lacquerware, and studied maki-e under lacquerware artisan Ichigo Iccho -后一兆 (1898-1991).
