Artist:Ōkura Tatsuo (b.1952)
Description: Vermillion-red natsume of irregular shape (kuchigai ‘non-matching’) with woodgrain highlighted by black lacquer, using the negoro lacquer technique. The minimalistic lacquerware consists of an undercoat of black lacquer, covered by a coat of red lacquer that usually is not adorned with motifs or any form of decoration. Over time the vermillion lacquer coating wears away creating an unique beauty with the black lacquer layer breaking through. With original signed box, inscription reads: non-matching tea container (kuichigai chaki). This refers to the shape being irregular. Features a sticker reading Ginza Kuroda Touen, a Japanese art gallery founded in 1935 focusing on ceramics. *Lacquer artist specializing in negoro lacquer, born in Nagano prefecture.
