Description: Black lacquer natsume with fubuki (bevelled shoulder) lid, decorated with a subtle motif of tree peony in raised gold and red lacquer and the karakusa pattern (lit. Chinese grass motif, also called arabesque pattern, a repetition of scrolling vines). Subtle rough texture in the black lacquer by usage of iji nuri technique (using dry lacquer powder) and interior of natsume and lid featuring gold nashiji (sprinkled gold) and a gold inner rim. Inner lid of the natsume is signed with monogram in red lacquer by Hisada Sōya久田宗也 (1925-2010), the 12th generation Grand Master of the Urasenke school of tea ceremony. With original signed box, inscription reads: surface [decorated with] tree peony and karakusa (arabesque pattern) in maki-e, ijinuri, fubuki. Also signed by the 12th generation Grand Master of the Urasenke school with his art name Jinkyūsai (尋牛斎) on the box. *Born in Yamanaka-cho, Ishikawa prefecture into the renowned Maehata lacquerware family.
Signed:on bottom Kinsa and idem on box, plus artist’s seal reading Kinsa.
