Description: Cream coloured natsume with green maple leaves, a combination that appears on lacquer to signal an early summer feel. Black lacquer interior. Inner lid decorated with two more green maple leaves and stylized leaf veins in gold lacquer. With cloth with artist’s seal reading Kosai. With original signed box, inscription reads: white lacquer, green maple leaf, middle-sized natsume (shiro urushi, ao kaede, chū-natsume). *Born in 1955 in Yamanakawa, Ishikawa prefecture. He graduated from Komatsu Technical High school in 1974 and started studying under maki-e lacquer artisan Omote Masanori 表 正則(b. 1938) for five years, after which he started working independently as a lacquer craftsman. He is known for his traditonal maki-e lacquer work, which is characterised by simple elegant designs that stand out because of their bold and unusual colour choice.
