*Icchō was born in the Ishikawa prefecture. During his lifetime he quickly became one of the top valued craftsman of Wajima-nuri lacquerware. Icchō specializes in maki-e; a technique to decorate lacquerware by sprinkling gold or silver dust particles over wet lacquer design. Especially his natsume are now held in high esteem.
