Description: Detailed landscape painting on silk picturing a mountainous valley, shrouded in mist, with three small houses. We see someone looking out the window to the blooming trees nearby. A waterfall is pictured to the upper right. Comes with double box with futomaki (not original). *Kodama Katei was born in Nagano prefecture and a Nanga artist (Southern school of Chinese painting). He learned Nanpin school painting at first from Sakuma Sesso 佐久間雪窓when he was fifteen years old, specializing in kachō-ga, and afterwards he learned Nanga painting from Tanomura Chokunyū 田能村直. He also trained many excellent disciples such as Kikuchi Keigutsu 菊池契月. He produced many landscape paintings and ancient style paintings. During his career he frequently entered painting competitions and won many prizes. After stuying Zen Buddhism at a temple in Odawara and travelling all over Japan, returned to his hometown and lived in retirement.
