Artist:Kodama Kibō 児玉希望 (1898–1971)
Description: Kakejiku, painting on paper mounted on silk, of a long branch of ivy growing downward, accompanied by a green cricket. Lovely minimalistic painting, with elegant details done in gold paint: the veins of the leaves, and a few round fruits hanging from the branches. With original box, titled on the lid ‘cricket’ (虫韻 mushi in). Inner lid signed Kibō, with artist seal. Comes with extra paper box with sticker mentioning the title and artist in ink. *Born in Hiroshima Prefecture, Kodama Kibō was a Nihonga painter, in 1918 he started his study under Kawai Gyokudō 川合玉堂(1873-1957), he would end up being his most promising pupil. In 1921 he was awarded his first prize at the third Teiten exhibition. In 1932 he was appointed as a judge of the Teiten, in 1950 he established the Nichigetsu-kai with other artists such as Itō Shinsui and Shiratori Eisetsu. Three years later he won the Award of the Japan Art Academy.
