Description: Kabuki triptych featuring the famous actor Ichikawa Danjūrō in the role of Higuchi Jirō Kanemitsu. Published in 1890. The kabuki play this triptych references to is 'Hirakana Seisuki'. In act III, Higuchi Jirō Kanemitsu pretends to be boatman Matsuemon. He ends up in a boat with three aggresive boatmen that see through his act and try to arrest him. Higuchi defeats them by beating them to death with an oar. This triptych shows Higuchi Jirō Kanemitsu as he has climbed a tall pine tree, oar still in his hands, to discover from his high viewing point that he is surrounded from all sides by the Genji army.
