Description: A highly unusual dai ōban print designed on the occasion of the wrestler Shiranui Dakuemon becoming the 8th Yokozuna, in Nov. 1840. The format, a double ōban sheet is almost never seen. There is a handstamped publisher's seal, reading hanmoto 'man', with a stylized sumo referee fan in the top section. The kiwame shaped seal, also handstamped is unknown. This may be an Osaka print which was given a publishers mark and a censorship seal for sale in Edo.
