Published by Fujiokaya Keijirō in 1847.
Detailed triptych illustrating a famous episode from the life of military general Minamoto no Yoshitsune 源義経 (1159-1189). As Yoshitsune faces an attack by warrior monks, his loyal retainer Satō Tadanobu 佐藤忠信
(1161-1186) disguises himself in his master's armour (wearing his characteristic horned battle helmet) to allow him to escape. Satō Tadanobu is pictured jumping down in a dramatic fashion, fighting against a group of warrior monks led by Yokawa Kakuhan 横川覚範 (pictured right holding
a naginata). This fight in the snow set at the shrine at
Mount Yoshino, with dramatic tengu-like jump from Satō Tadanobu impersonating his master, has been visualized in several woodblock prints. | Signed: | Left sheet: Gyokuran Sadahide ga.
