Published by Nishinomiya Shoin (Shinagawa Kiyoomi) August 1940. Block-cutters: Hino Keikichi, Komeda Shintarō and Fujikawa Manjirō Printer: Mitsumoto Kaichi Accompanying text examines the struggles of this vocation: ‘[..] The Japanese style of hairdressing seems to be reserved for professional entertainers.[..] Each beauty parlour must compete with its rivals in the same line of business, while mastering both the old and the new arts*, it is obvious that the vocation is by no means a simple one.’ *Referring to foreign hairstyles that were considered trendy and modern.
