Description: No. 13, Lay Priest Tokiyori of Saimyō-ji Temple (Saimyō-ji Tokiyori nyūdō),from the series Mirrors of famous commanders of great Japan (Dai Nippon meishō kagami). Published by Funazu Chūjirō in 1878. Hōjō Tokiyori (1227-63) was a regent during the Kamakura period, known for his humane and exemplary rule. In 1256 he retired to the temple mentioned in the title: Saimyōji. He travelled hiding his identity, in order to observe the living conditions of the people.
