This triptych was very quickly made, as the incident of the fire took place during the dawn of 20 January 1891. The Chief Secretary of the House of Representatives announced a short circuit to be the cause of the fire. At the time during the ‘civilization and enlightenment’ period, electrical lights made their debut, but this incident made the public filled with fear and the Tokyo Electric Light Company saw their sales drop sharply.
